The electric pickup trucks F-150 Lightning are part of a larger recall of 11,922 vehicles because of a problem with the suspension that could cause parts to come loose, which could cause the driver to lose control.
The recalled models cover the years 2023 and 2024. According to the NHTSA, there is a possibility that the control arm could detach from these vehicles due to factory-incorrectly tightened nuts on the front upper control arm ball joints. The wheel hub and its associated suspension components are kept in alignment on their vertical axis by means of control arms, which extend horizontally from the vehicle’s frame or body structure and attach to the hub.
One of these attachment points is the ball-joint nut. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warned that a loose or missing nut could cause the control arm to separate, which would increase the risk of a crash and loss of directional control. Drivers may also experience vibration and hear a clunk or rattling sound during suspension jounce and rebound.

Ford informed the safety agency that it is cognizant of one accident that is linked to this issue, as well as two field reports and a warranty claim. The latter represents two incidents that are associated with the problem. Ford is of the opinion that the improper seating of a tool used to attach suspension components during assembly may have been the result of changes in its alignment or orientation.
Dealers will evaluate the ball-joint nut that is affected and, if required, replace it and/or the associated knuckle assembly. Ford anticipates sending owner notification letters to owners on February 3, 2025. Additionally, owners may obtain additional information by contacting the automaker’s customer service department at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s reference number for this recall is 24S76.

A new Flash grade, which is situated between the XLT and Lariat models, and a range-boosting heat pump were among the updates that the Lightning received for the 2024 model year. The Lightning was introduced for the 2022 model year.
